CSD Job Recruitment Opportunities 2024: Temporary employment is common in Military and Defence CSD Canteens, where the majority of workers are hired on a temporary basis, with only a small fraction being permanent employees. This trend is observed in all URC and Depot canteens throughout India. The administrative office of the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) issues notifications about job vacancies. When positions become available at the CSD Depot Office, CSD Accounts Office, and URC Canteens, recruitment criteria are set by the headquarters. Vacancies are filled according to current regulations. Moreover, some canteens may opt to hire Ex-Servicemen for security-related positions.
Approximately 90% of the workforce in CSD Depot and URC canteens are employed on a contractual basis. These employees have fixed monthly salaries and carry out various duties, including managing billing, item distribution, and overseeing goods collection from the Depot.

Locations of CSD URC Canteens 2024
The Unit Run Canteens are overseen by the CSD Headquarters, with the appointment of a Head of Department or Manager from the local Army Office. These canteens, known as URCs, are strategically placed throughout India, most notably in regimental or Defense Areas. As the number of CSD beneficiaries in a specific location increases, so does the establishment of additional URCs.
Situated in Mumbai, the CSD Head Office manages its field operations through a network of 34 Area Depots spread across the country. These Depots are divided into five Regions, aligning with Indian States and their geographical proximity. Each Region exercises authority over six to eight Area Depots, classified into different sizes based on their annual turnover.
On average, an Area Depot serves approximately 100 URCs and acts as a crucial intermediary between CSD and end customers. URCs play a vital role in supplying everyday consumer goods and durable items to troops stationed in various locations at prices lower than the market rate. With a total of around 3794 URCs nationwide, these establishments significantly contribute to the operational framework.
