The data, which provides crucial insights into the consumer price index for industrial workers, has not yet been released by the Labour Bureau. Employee associations and federations are anxiously urging the Union Government to expedite the process. The official assured that the pending issue will be resolved promptly to ensure transparency and accuracy in the statistical analysis.

CPI BY-2012 Rural, Urban Index for April 2024

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers on a base of 2012=100 have been released for rural, urban, and combined areas for April 2024. Here are the key highlights from the report:

  1. The annual inflation rate, based on the all-India Consumer Price Index (CPI) number, stands at 4.83% (Provisional) for April 2024 compared to April 2023. The corresponding inflation rates for rural and urban areas are 5.43% and 4.11%, respectively.
  2. The CPI values for January, February, and March 2024 are 5.10, 5.09, and 4.85, respectively.
  3. Notably, among the top five groups, the year-on-year inflation in groups such as ‘Clothing & Footwear’, ‘Housing’, and ‘Fuel & Light’ has decreased compared to the previous month, indicating fluctuations in the cost of these essential items.
