Normalization Explained to Paramedical Tamil Nadu Admission 2024-25
The minimum eligibility mark for candidates who have completed an equivalent examination will be determined using the normalization method outlined in Tamil Nadu Act No. 3 of 2007 and G.O(Ms) No.77 of the Higher Education (J2) Department, both dated 05.03.2007 and 05.04.2007 respectively.
This process entails aligning the marks obtained by students in relevant subjects from different Boards with the marks achieved by students from the State Board of Tamil Nadu during qualifying examinations. Through this standardization process, the normalization method ensures that the highest mark obtained by students in each subject from various Boards is equated with the highest mark attained by State Board students in the same subject. Consequently, the relative marks of other students in that subject are determined accordingly.
Normalization Experiment
The normalization process involves adjusting scores obtained by students from different educational boards to ensure fairness and comparability. For instance, if a student achieves the highest score of 100 in Physics from the State Board, and another student from a different board scores 90 in the same subject, both scores will be adjusted to be equivalent to 100.
In cases where a student scores lower, such as 60, in Physics from a board where the highest mark is 90, the 60 marks will be normalized to 66.66 using the formula: (100 x 60) / 90 = 66.66%. Following the normalization of marks across various boards, eligible students will be integrated into a unified merit list.
For candidates from national boards like CBSE and ISCE, only the highest marks achieved at the national level will be considered for the normalization process.
